BUSI2131 SUMMATIVE ASSIGNMENT Managing Global Environment
SUMMATIVE ASSIGNMENT
Answer all three parts:
- To what extent does Haier’s current business model concur with Dunning & Lundan’s (2008:587) view that “the contemporary network MNE is best considered as a co-ordinator of a global system of value-added activities”?
- In what ways has Haier’s process of re-inventing itself since 1984 been reflected in significant revisions of the two pre-eminent academic internationalization paradigms in the International Business literature (i.e. the OLI Paradigm and the Uppsala Model)?
- Critically consider what other Multinational Business Enterprises (MBEs) might learn from the likes of Haier and Nespresso about developing the “relational” capabilities and skills, e.g. trust and commitment, that Vahlne & Johanson (2013:205) conclude they require “to build, develop, and co-ordinate value-creating multinational business network structures involving both internal and external actors.”
Each part carries equal weight.
Overall word limit: 2500 words

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Assignments should be typed, using 1.5 spacing and an easy-to-read 12-point font. You should use double-sided printing, and ensure that assignments are securely bound. Written assignments and dissertations/business projects must not exceed the word count indicated in the module handbook/assessment brief.
The word count should:
- Include all the text, including title, preface, introduction, in-text citations, quotations, footnotes and any other items not specifically excluded below.
- Exclude diagrams, tables (including tables/lists of contents and figures), equations, executive summary/abstract, acknowledgements, declaration, bibliography/list of references and appendices. However, it is not appropriate to use diagrams or tables merely as a way of circumventing the word limit. If a student uses a table or figure as a means of presenting his/her own words, then this is included in the word count.
