• What is the evidential argument from evil? Drawing upon the theodicies discussed in class, discuss in detail what you think may be the most plausible response to the evidential argument from evil.  What objections can be raised to that theodicy and to your argument?

• Clifford argues that “it is wrong, always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.” What is Clifford’s reason for this claim?  That is, what arguments does he utilize to defend this thesis?  How does Pascal’s view of the rationality of religious belief compare with Clifford’s view of the rationality of religious belief?

• Discuss Hume’s problem of induction. Why does Hume think we have no rational justification for induction?  How might we respond Hume’s arguments?

• In the “Myth of Gyges,” Glaucon argues that the nature and origin of justice is self-interest. Discuss in detail what he means by this claim.  Are there any natural duties that we have to others?  Be sure to provide specific examples.
